Message from The Philippine Center Chairwoman.

The Philippine Centre Barrio Fiesta sa London has once again delivered a successful event. It is a celebration of the 25th year anniversary. This was made possible with the help of this year’s organiser Pinoy Events Ltd (Gen Ashley), sponsor’s, donors, stallholders, friends and kababayans.

As the main project of the Philippine Centre Charity, the barrio fiesta sa London has always been a time of gathering with family and friends, meeting new ones in the spirit of camaraderie, fellowship and tradition. The event was once again a peaceful and happy occasion as Filipinos are an understanding and peace loving people. The presence of the police was a welcome sight and they were there more to enjoy with the people rather than anything else. The slogan accepted by the Philippine Centre as the theme this year “Keep the Filipino Tradition Alive” was well inculcated in the minds of all. Performances were mostly cultural numbers and few were allowed to offer up-to-date entertainment. Thanks to GMA, we had Filipino artiste as well as a budding Hollywood actor. It was also paid an unexpected visit by a worldwide personality, “Ms Mylene Klass” & her family. As a young teenager, Mylene started showing her prowess on the stage of the “barrio fiesta” some years back as a Hawaiian dancer. It has been an honour that she came to show solidarity with her roots. Let us not forget that it is also a privilege that the occasion was marked as the first official gathering of Filipinos graced by the new Philippine ambassador to the Court of St James, His Excellency Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo. The presence of the Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of Hounslow was also most appreciated.

It was thankfully a good weather despite the constant threat of rain. Stalls were very well arranged and orderly. It was well attended and noticeable presence of the fire brigade, the police, the ambulance crew, securities, the transport of London, JLIS, the Philippine Embassy & Tourism, numerous commercial and trading entities, catering services, sporting groups, different publishing companies, member organisations of the Philippine Centre and many more. Twenty five years is a clear proof of the voluntary service that the board members & officers past & present have dedicated to the community.

The beauty contest is the only source of funding for projects of the Philippine Centre. We in the Philippine Centre wish to thank all the parents & families of the contestants for their help and support at this year’s celebration. The securities and volunteers are great help to the success of the event. Food and drinks were bountiful all around and cheerful faces of the attendees enjoying the day, is a sight to behold. To those who do good, God will always provide. This is why we are so thankful to the Almighty for the blessings on those days.

For everybody’s information, let this be known that the “Barrio Fiesta sa London” was for 25 years a project of the Philippine Centre, still is & will always be a project of the Philippine Centre and working together with this year’s the event organiser Pinoy Events Ltd (Gen Ashley). It has always been and will always be an entrance free event for the community whether known artiste are present or not. We hope to see you next year, God willing. Please see the Philippine Centre website for any information you need to know about it and its projects. To all, our love for you will keep us going. Mabuhay tayong lahat!!!
